Our Cooking Tips + Tricks

tip #1
Properly Wash + Prep
Always wash vegetables and fruits before use, even if you buy pre-washed produce.
According to the USDA: use cool running water to rinse the produce. Warm water is ok, but is no better than cool water. Avoid hot water, since it can damage soft vegetables. Click these links to learn more: FDA TIPS / USDA Food Safety
If you must store washed vegetables or fruits, make sure it is dry before storing in the refrigerator. I highly recommend washing just before you use them.

tip #2
Cilantro Use and Storage
Always use the cilantro with the stems. The stems have a lot of flavor.
Make your cilantro last longer:
Remove any tie or elastic band that is holding the bunch together.
Place the bunch in a plastic bag and in the refrigerator & in the deli drawer/bin.
Wash just before you use. Don’t wash and store it wet. If you wash them for storage, make sure they are well dried before storing.
Remove any yellowing or faded or dead leaves or stems just before using them.

tip #3
Cooking Rice/Grains/Lentils
Wash before use.
Soaking them at least for 30 min before cooking helps speed the cooking process and makes it softer and fluffier.
